Cape Town | City Wedding Venues
19 / 07 / 16Step aside New York City, hello Cape Town! The City of Cape Town (the CBD) is unlike any other city centre – Encircled by the ocean and with Lion’s Head and Table Mountain as back drops, Cape Town is beginning to lead the way for inner-city weddings.
The secret is being able to see the beauty in the buildings while being able to visualise a commercial space as the perfect setting for your wedding– with the help of the right wedding décor of course. Here are a few different inner-city wedding venues that we feel are perfect for you chic urban couples.
Studios
Studios are great because of their extensive, open spaces-layout and “blank canvas” feel, giving you countless options for your wedding décor and design. Right now, our favourite studio has to be East City Studios.
With two levels available to bridal couples, you can have an entirely separate ceremony upstairs and reception downstairs. It’s definitely the large glass windows and outside balcony area that makes this venue stand out. You and your guests will have panoramic views of the cityscape, which change with the light as the sun sets.
Why not consider studios used as art galleries? They’re interesting and add unique visual appeal to weddings. Not only do you get to enjoy artwork at your venue, but you can be as creative as you like and really turn your wedding décor into, well, a work of art too!
An important factor in considering a studio is that you will need to source all your suppliers. Studios and art galleries are also likely to have certain limits in place to protect their spaces, but the possibilities are endless. Night or day, you’re promised beautiful and unique views of the world-renowned Mother City.
If it’s modern and sleek with plenty of urban mystique that you’re after, then this is the venue choice for you.
Libraries
Our cities are teeming with beautiful old libraries that make for a historic and different ceremony or reception venues. Standing proudly on Queen Victoria Road, the opulent and old-worldly Centre for the Book is one of Cape Town’s finest libraries and venues.
Also an Edwardian National Monument, the centre offers a unique experience in a historic setting– perfect for the urban and literature-loving couple. The central hall and its display of locally published books will surround you and your guests– and will leave a lasting impression.
Hotels
Unlike the other options mentioned, hotels provide different spaces and facilities, making it easy for you to host the ceremony, pre-drinks and reception all under one roof. And with their in-house catering, staffing and furniture, hotels pretty much have it all, facilitating the planning of your wedding.
Occupying a breath- taking site on the lower slopes of Table Mountain, the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel is Cape Town’s grande dame; our number one hotel wedding venue choice. With its grand entrance, plentiful parking and nine acres of lush and tranquil gardens, it will provide you with a beautiful ceremony area and the perfect setting for photographs.
Private Club Houses
With magnificent architecture, excellent service and old-world charm, club houses ooze sophistication.
Located in a heritage building across the road from Company Gardens, the Cape Town Club makes for a very elite, stylish and unforgettable wedding venue. With its original wooden floors, enclosed balcony and enormous windows this venue overlooks a bustling Queen Victoria Street and offers panoramic Table Mountain views. Head chef Albert Venter will cater to your every food wish to ensure the success of your wedding celebration.
Do you want a unique and alternative to the traditional country house or over-used wedding venue? Why not celebrate your big day in the glamorous surroundings of the city centre instead?
