Entrance to Webersburg Winelands Wedding Venue Stellenbosch

Webersburg, the historic Cape Dutch homestead and boutique winery, is nestled on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain in Stellenbosch, South Africa’s finest wine-producing area.

The majestic views of the mountains and vineyards that surround this well-known estate add to the overall experience and beauty of the historic yet stylish venue.

Combined with award-winning wines, mouth-watering cuisine and great service and hospitality, Webersburg is a favourite of ours and a definite recommendation to our clients.

Having had the privilege of co-ordinating many weddings at Webersburg, we have come to know the team well and have fallen in love with the charm of this Estate and its many wonderful facilities.

Today, we chat to Gaby, the co-ordinator and our go-to person at Webersburg, who tells us a bit about working at this incredible venue. She also shares her top tips and advice for couples looking for the prefect wedding venue when planning their special day.

If you where to describe Webersburg to someone who has never seen it, how would you?

I would describe Webersburg as a hidden gem. We are situated in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain. As you drive into the Estate, you are surrounded by vineyards and mountains. It is beautiful and majestic. We have rolling green lawns and elegantly restored Cape Dutch architecture, so there is a magical feel of old-world romance.

I am sure that different couples fall in love with different aspects of your venue, but what is your favourite feature of Webersburg?

Definitely the view.

Share with us one of the most memorable weddings you have hosted since you have been the venue co-ordinator.

Wow, that’s quite difficult! Every wedding is memorable. One that stands out, however, was an Indian wedding that we hosted. The groom’s mother organised the wedding and she would call me almost every day to make sure that everything was perfect. The wedding day was perfect, she did a fantastic job with all the suppliers and décor, etc. The most special thing for me was the speech her son gave on his wedding day. His father had died when he was quite young and his mom had never remarried, she was a single mom. He basically said that his mom had been both parents to him; and he thanked her for being amazing. The whole room was in tears, and I thought, if my son says that about me one day, then I would have succeeded! It was personal, but that is what made it so memorable.

When and why did you decide to become a venue and wedding co-ordinator at Webersburg Wine Estate?

I joined Webersburg in April 2015. I have always loved weddings and the idea of creating or helping someone to create their special day has always been something that I have wanted to do. It seemed I was destined to work here. Plus, I couldn’t say no to working in such a beautiful place.

What advice would you give to couples selecting their wedding venue?

In selecting a wedding venue, I would suggest to couples that they ask the venue co-ordinator/person in charge as many questions they can think of. I would also suggest drawing up a spreadsheet of the venues that they like to compare costs, what is provided, what is not provided, and the pros and cons. Do not ever feel pressurised to book somewhere that you are not comfortable with, and also, importantly, you need to be comfortable with the person you are booking with as they will be your first point of contact whenever you have questions or need advice. It should be a calming and helpful process, not a stressful one.

What advice would you give to couples who are planning their special day?

Ultimately it is your big day, so again, don’t feel pressurised into anything that you are not comfortable with. This could be the décor or the food. Have it the way you envision it. And most important of all, remember that you are celebrating the love that you have for one another, the joining of your lives and your families, and that love should be what you are thinking of when you stand up in front of all of your friends and family.

Thank you, Gaby, for taking the time out of your busy, busy schedule to chat to us - especially since wedding season has officially started.

We’re looking forward to working with you and the team at a few of our weddings this season.
